This picture was taken immediately after the piece came out of the final kiln firing. This is a Goddess form I had been developing and working on while attending a ceramics class at Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minnesota. This particular form has an altar in the torso area, surrounded by a tree limb and leaves. The head, encircled by a nest of twigs, is hollow to accommodate a potted plant. I envision a Boston fern, or lush ivy, reaching up and out from the nest of twigs.
This particular form took approximately two weeks to hand build using the coil and pinch method. An additional week was spent carving details, then hand glazing with a brush. I can picture this piece becoming part of a series of Goddess forms. It was a lot of fun to create!
