Artist Statement
My work can best be described as functional sculptures. I specialize in hand built, one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces. It is the challenge of creating something new that compels me to explore new forms often. Inspiration is drawn from the natural world, particularly its transformative capabilities. My work reflects a sense of movement and change, as well as the colors, shapes, patterns and textures I observe in rocks, plants and water patterns.
I am often asked why I sign my work 'SPIRIT'. When I touch and work with clay, I find I am more mindful, meditative and peaceful than I have ever been. The entire creative process is slow, purposeful and, in some ways, even prayerful. Similar to gardening, it gives me a sense of being more connected to the Earth and others. 'SPIRIT' encompasses all of this. ~Kim Gross

Artist's Bio
Throughout my life, being creative has always kept me centered. In 2004, I took my first ceramics class and fell in love with clay. Since then, I have attended workshops, taken more classes, and read everything I can get my hands on about clay. I have participated in many juried art shows and art fairs throughout Minnesota, and continue to do so. In 2011, I resigned from my position as a Research Assistant in Clinical Research to create art full-time. I consider this to be one of my better life decisions
